Hata Yoga stems from a deep understanding of the mechanics of the body, and uses yogic postures, or yogasanas, to enable the system to sustain higher dimensions of energy. The word “asana” means posture. Out of the innumerable asanas or postures that the body can take, certain postures have been identified as yogasanas – that is, they allow one to reach their higher nature. Depending on a person’s mental and emotional state, the body naturally tends to assume different postures. Conversely, by consciously assuming different body postures, one can change and enhance the way they think, feel, and experience life.

Isha’s Hata Yoga program offers a comprehensive set of yogasanas which require no special physical agility or previous experience of yoga. It is a very subtle process of changing the energy in the system, which in turn straightens out physical and mental imbalances. Regular practice of Hata Yoga not only improves health and wellbeing, but also significantly enhances the experience of kriyas and meditation.
